Field Trip

LACORO Field Trip Program - Thursday, December 11, 2025

Below is the detailed schedule for the three field-trip options:

1. CODELCO - Integrated Operations Center (CIO), Rancagua

  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Group size: Maximum 15 participants per group
  • Location: Av. Capitán Antonio Millán 1020, Rancagua

Description: Participants will tour the Integrated Operations Center, which coordinates and remotely supervises mining operations at El Teniente, located in the Andes mountains near Rancagua. A guided walk through the operations floor, with demonstrations of teleoperation stations and monitoring systems used for remote mining activities.

  • Group 2: 10:15 - 11:15 (15 participants max)

2. Minuto Verde - ALIFRUT Frozen Food Processing Plant (Rengo)

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Departure: 09:00 from Rancagua Campus, Arrival: ~09:30 at ALIFRUT
  • Pick-up time: 11:30
  • Location: ALIFRUT Plant, Rengo
  • Coordinator: Jaime Varas

Description: This visit includes an exterior and interior tour of one of Chile’s most important frozen-food processing facilities. Inside the plant, participants will observe: industrial robotic arms assisting in processing workflows, automated sorting and packaging systems, operational safety and sanitary protocols.

Safety Gear: The facilities will provide sanitized protective suits and safety footwear (both required for entering the processing areas). If you have your own safety shoes, please bring them with you.

Schedule
  • 09:00: Bus departure from Rancagua Campus
  • 09:30: Arrival and introduction to ALIFRUT
  • 09:30 - 11:30: Guided plant tour (interior + exterior)
  • 11:30: Bus pick-up and return

3. Agrícola La Torre - Agricultural Robotics & Sensing (Rengo)

  • Duration: ~2 hours
  • Departure: 09:00 from Rancagua Campus
  • Arrival: 09:45 at Agrícola La Torre
  • Location: Agrícola La Torre, Rengo
  • Coordinator: Jaime Varas

Description: This field visit is focused on robotics and precision agriculture. Participants will see practical demonstrations of LoRaWAN environmental and operational sensors deployed in the orchard, drone flights for canopy inspection and mapping, and rover manipulation for automated fruit-counting tasks.

Detailed Schedule
  • 09:00: Departure from Rancagua Campus
  • 09:45: Arrival at Agrícola La Torre
  • 09:50: Visit to Block 4 (Cuartel 4)
  • 10:00: Automated fruit-counting system tests and deployment and demonstration of agricultural robots (rovers, drone flights, sensor stations)
  • 11:15: Bus pick-up and return
Safety Recommendations
  • For the open-field trip, please bring a bottle of water, a sun hat, and closed-toe shoes.
